Art and Life in Renaissance Venice
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Press (September, 1997)
Average review score:

well-written, readable work on High Venetian artThis book is a great introdcution to Venetian art of the Renaissance, through its views of the major artists of the time (the Bellinis, Titian, Pollaiuolo, Veronese, etc.), but it incorporates enough social, religious, and political history that one not only gets a more-well rounded view of the Venice of the Renaissance, but also is not bogged down in excessive stylistic analysis. This makes Brown's work a wonderful introduction to the Venetian novice, which many amateur art-historians caught up with Florence and Rome (myself included) tend to be.

Art for Children: A Step-By-Step Guide for the Young Artist

Great ideas even for adultsI bought this book because it has great projects. From jewelry, papier mache, print making among other projects. It has great ideas to teach children and even for adults like me that study art. I am fascinated by the book and even my friends at the museum I work at are to.

Art in Dress (1922)
Published in Paperback by R. L. Shep Publications (August, 1993)
Average review score:

THIS BOOK IS REALLY EXTRA SPECIAL!This book has so much in it that I love - 1920s fashion, illustrations and patterns! R L Shep's publications are always fabulous but this one is everything for anyone with interest in fashion of this "naughty" era.
There are quite a lot of patterns available for clothes in the late Victorian or Edwardian era but very little for the 20s - this is it! The patterns are quite technical and involve a drafting method unique to Clement Brown (I think) but I was able to work it out pretty quickly and, if you have patternmaking experience, it would be no problem. The patterns are not for beginners though. A heavenly book!

Arthur and the Perfect Brother
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (September, 2000)
Average review score:

My daughter loves this whole seriesThis series of books is so consistently good that I automatically order each one as soon as it's available. #21 keeps up the tradition. My daughter (just turned 8) loves it, as she has the previous 20. The only difference from the beginning of the series to the present, is that now she has to read each chapter to me before I'll read it to her. She's always excited when Marc Brown releases a new book.

Arthur and the Recess Rookie
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2003)
Average review score:

A nice lesson in fairnessFrancine learns that it isn't always sheer physical skill that makes a good team - strategy is important. The gang also takes some time to think about how it feels to be the last one picked for a team - you know that feeling. Never sappy but engaging, a good story in a great series. Stephen Krensky has done a good job with these books. Why is it that Marc Brown's name is on the cover?

Arthur and the School Pet
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (28 January, 2003)
Average review score:

It's D.W.! And a Gerbil! Lots to Love. This one is titled as an Arthur story, but it's really D.W. who steals the show. She's asked to take care of a preschool pet, a gerbil named Speedy, over the Christmas holiday. (A situation that may be familiar to many readers.) Although Arthur's helpful to her, he also discourages her idea of teaching the gerbil tricks. But this doesn't stop D.W.! In addition to the good, original story, the book also includes wonderful illustrations and dedicated readers will be able to spot the name of at least one of Marc Brown's children. Recommended for Arthur fans and a must for D.W. fans.

Never has my daughter spent so much time intrigued by one boMy daughter is 16 months old and picks up this book several times a day. She just loves to open the flaps and pretend to count the goodies found underneath. Although we've read it her countless times, she enjoys just spending her own time with this adorable book.

Arthur Meets the President
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

MY REVIEW OF ARTHUR MEETS THE PRESIDENTI like this book because it is special. I am nervous sometimes just like Arthur in the story. It also makes me think about all the places that are in the book. I want to go to Washington, D.C. one day and meet the President. But I hope I don't have to give a speech. D.W. made me laugh at the end. It also made me think and I'm going to help other people. A good book.
